Hello! My name is Piper

Piper. I just love her name. Pipers parents are both in the same industry. Melanie is a talented make-up artists and Tim is an awesome wedding videographer. Seriously, if you want somebody to document your wedding day-he’s the one! You can check Tim and Melanie’s work here and here.

When Melanie contacted me to photograph her birth I have to say I was extremely nervous because we pretty much run in the same circle. It’s always nerve-wracking photographing another photographer or someone who in the same line of work but once I got to the hospital all nervousness that had been built up were gone and I couldn’t wait to document their little ones arrival. Melanie’s labor was the quietest labor I’ve attended. The whole vibe in the room was so calm. You could really feel Melanie’s inner strength shining through as she stayed focus on pushing her little baby out. Tim was also great. He was always at Melanie’s side keeping his focus all on his wife. It was so sweet to watch. Melanie’s mom and sister were also in the room too and as I watched Melanie’s mom be a support for her daughter I quietly hoped I could have that same experience with my girls when it’s their turn. There was such a great family bond in that room. It was so great to a part of.  For Melanie’s first baby, Piper sure came quickly.  I had expected to be there for the long haul but as I got back in my van I realized i was only there for a few hours. I tell you Melanie is one tough lady.

Thank you and Melanie and Tim for allowing me to photograph Piper’s arrival.

Hello! My Name is Samuel

Meet Barb and Jamie and their new wonderful little son Samuel. Barb has become a family friend ours. She’s a great friend of my sister in-law’s and her daughter is besties with my niece (my SIL’s daughter). I’ve known Barb for quite some time so it’s been great seeing all of our families grow together. What I love about Barb is that she is so great at motivating and encouraging people. A couple years ago Barb got me into running. It was a long and challenging journey but she was always there encouraging me on. We ended up doing a 5k a few months later! She’s the best workout partner I’ve ever had.

Barb gave birth to Samuel just a few short hours after she was admitted. This was another birth I wasn’t permitted to be in the room for the actual pushing (same Dr. as my SIL) but the moments before and after Samuel entering the world were just as emotional. One of my favourite moments of documenting Samuel’s birth was coming back in the morning to photograph big sister, Sophia, meeting her new baby brother for the first time. I’ve only had the experience of watching my kids meet a new sibling so this was so special to be a part of  their that moment. Sophia accepting her new brother with opens arms and showered his the kisses the whole time I was there and of course Samuel welcomed them.;)

Thank you so much Barb for letting me document Samuel’s arrival. Actually, there are not enough Thank You’s. It’s hard finding the right words to describe my appreciate and joy when I can witness a little ones birth.

Be sure to check out the slide show at the bottom. Barb choose the song and I think it’s just perfect.

Hello! My Name is Brendan

Meet Brendan. My new nephew. Techincally he’s not so new anymore but he’s the newest addition to our family. It was such an honour to be able to document the journey to his birth. While I  didn’t get to document the actual “birthing” part but I stood right outside the room with my mother in-law and listened to Brendan enter the world-after one push. It was such an experience. Sara was amazing during labor. Ok, enough babbling. I’m getting all weepy again. I truly, love documenting birth and the more I do them the more I know this is where I want to be. Do I say that a lot? Well if I do know that it’s true.

Here’s the video. Enjoy!
